The Ladies Rip it up at Wildflower 2009

The weekend originally called for 80% chance of rain. The showers were over by Saturday morning and those who forgot their sunscreen thinking it was going to rain ended up looking like they were still wearing a shirt after they took it off...bad move. The sun came out and we made our move, getting compliments all over the course for our speed and hot kits.

For the 25-29 age group we had a tremendous group of gals kicking booty from the swim to the run. Miss Erin had the fastest swim of the group in a rockin' 27 minutes and changed and finished 11th in the group, not too bad for a girl with a slow leak on the bike! Hailey takes the cake for the fast gal of the group on the bike with the 4th fastest bike and ended up 7th in the AG. Miss Rosy capped off the day with the fastest run split for the 25-29 women and was 3rd at the end of the day. We had three gals doing their first or second half Ironman and they took it out in true pink form, congrats to Susan who had a PR, Sarah and Kate who were in the top 3rd of the age group! Lara was out there and had a breakthrough swim and was able to take the 15th fastest run of the day for the ladies 25-29. Way to push it Lara!

Kate is officially hooked and looking to get a waitlist slot for Vineman '09.

Meredith on the bike, taking charge!
Next up we saw some serious hurt being laid down by the group of 30-34 ladies! Meredith was able to take the entire overall female win and finished 5th out of all women, pro and amateur alike, right behind Tyler Stewart!

Hitting the finish line first.

Next up we had Pia who had her first race back after her collarbone break last year. Pia finished 7th in the AG and had the 4th best bike...welcome back lady!

Pia, making it look easy.

Ariane, AKA tough as nails biker chic, took the 2nd fastest bike split of the day and was 9th in the AG overall. Jill arrived at Wildflower so crammed in a car that I could barely see her! Jill took on the race this year and finished strong despite having not trained as much as she would have liked.

Ariane all smiles at the finish!

Jill looking strong on the bike!

35-39 has just one lady our resident Xterra gal, Shannon! Shannon is 35 this year and took 35th in her age group, nice theme lady!
Shannon and Jill, chilling in transition.

40-44 saw some speed of it's own- Dorette was able to finish 11th in the group, relying on her inner speedometer rather than any gadget to guide her, resulting in a WF PR and the 9th best bike! Hope was out there going long and strong feeling good all day. Monica was out there pushing hard as always even though her body was, in the words of Amy Weinhouse, saying "no,no,no!". Our fearless Monica took on the swim and bike before giving into the body's demands. Awesome job for just getting over a wicked cold. Sydney topped off the age group with a sprint down the finish chute with Lara and the 23rd best time in the AG and the 7th best run!

45-49 saw Lori take 3rd in her group getting a podium spot and having the 2nd best swim! Must have been the massage right? Ann W was out there looking good and taking the 10th best bike spot and 13th in the group.

Kim B- took part in the greater than 1 relay (raising $ for the SF AIDS foundation) and was able to have a great day on the bike. Anne Findlay also took part in the bike portion of the day and was able to successfully complete her first race after breaking her collarbone last year as well. Welcome back Anne, so good to see your smile out there!

Onto the Olympic at Wildflower! Saturday saw even clearer skies and warmer temperatures. We had 6 ladies out there and boy did they show 'em what we're made of! Leishia took the fastest swim of the day in 21 minutes! Just call her a mermaid :) Kelly was able to take 2nd in her group of 20-24 and grab a podium spot but was a bit disappointed with the day as the med tent and not the win awaited her at the finish. Kelly- nicely done, way to keep the focus. Our new member Erica was able to take 2nd in the 30-34 AG and had a blistering bike, nice job on the podium first time in Pink! Alli was able to take the 6th fastest bike in the 40-44 AG and Vicki pulled in a 14th place AG finish in the ladies 50-54. Liz B also took part in the Olympic relay.

Congrats to all the ladies for a fantastic weekend!

I'll have some wine with my triathlon please!

Anne T. took on the Napa 1/2 last weekend, gritting her teeth through the wind and rain all the way. With her mental prowess, Anne visualized a warm dry finish and came in for a 2nd place age group title and as the 9th overall female finisher. Now she deserves a lot more than a hot chocolate to warm up for that performance! Way to go Anne!

That finish line kick, uphill!

Success, now time to dry off!
